10 Feb 2007 - Vikings Junior Competition

Junior Vikings take on Norwich

Vikings Junior team hosted a Korfball competition at the City of Ely College on Saturday. The local team faced an Under 13 team from Norwich. The competition consisted of six lots of 15 minute games. Despite the experience of Norwich, Vikings excellent team work paid off and the majority of the games ended in a draw. Vikings managed to win one game 2-0, but Norwich answered back in the next game with a win 0-2. With all scores cancelling each other out it came down to the last game to decide the winners. Again this ended 1-1 draw. It was decided that it would go down to golden goal. Unfortunately after a promising attack from Vikings, Norwich stepped up a gear and managed to get the winning goal. Final score Vikings 9, Norwich 10.

Special mentions go to Melissa Hall who won Vikings player of the day after putting in a solid defensive performance and Jamie Smith who scored five of the nine goals.

Junior Coach 'Mo' said: 'Vikings put in a superb team performance, I'm extremely proud of our players. Their performance on Saturday showed a lot of potential – it's a very exciting time for our young squad.'

Viking Juniors are now training for the the British Korfball Under 13 National Championships that take place in April.
